Hanover Scotland has launched a new campaign in partnership with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) to reduce the number of fires caused by candles in its developments.

The housing association is launching the campaign to coincide with National Candle Safety Week which this year takes place from 16-22 October.

As part of the campaign, Hanover Scotland is providing information to all of its sites and making available 5,000 sets of electric candles available for free to any resident of one of their developments.

The association is always looking at ways to improve the safety and security of its tenants and, after noticing the increase in the number of small and large fires being caused by lit candles, decided to work with the SFRS to provide information and electric candles as an alternative to regular candles.

Chris Milburn, director of customer services at Hanover Scotland, said: “The safety of our residents and staff is always our top priority at Hanover Scotland and we are always looking at new ways to reduce the risk of harm at our developments. We are delighted that the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were able to work with us to provide accurate information to be displayed at our sites across Scotland.

“This information has now been sent out to all developments to coincide with National Candle Safety Week. In addition, we have purchased 5000 sets of electric candles which are available for free to any resident on request.”
