Hanover secures Scots first with Menopause Friendly Accreditation

Hanover Scotland has become the first in the country to secure the Menopause Friendly Accreditation, setting a new benchmark for workplace inclusivity across the sector.

The housing provider has been recognised through Henpicked’s Menopause Friendly programme, following assessment by an Independent Panel of experts. The award confirms that the organisation provides strong support for colleagues experiencing menopause, with clear policies, education and open conversations embedded across the workplace.

In doing so, Hanover becomes the first housing association in Scotland to achieve the standard, a milestone that places menopause firmly on the agenda within social housing.

Joanna Dunbar, learning and development coordinator, said: “We are incredibly proud to be the first housing association in Scotland to receive this accreditation.

“Menopause is a natural life stage, and supporting our colleagues through it is essential to our values of care, respect, and inclusion. This recognition is a testament to the hard work of our teams and reinforces our dedication to employee well-being.”

The panel highlighted the strength of Hanover’s application and its clear focus on inclusivity.

The achievement builds on the organisation’s wider Five Pillars of Wellbeing approach, which aims to ensure employees feel supported to thrive both personally and professionally.

Work to strengthen menopause awareness and support formed part of Hanover’s broader wellbeing commitments.

By encouraging open dialogue and providing practical guidance, the organisation has worked to remove stigma and make conversations around menopause easier and more normal within the workplace.

Menopause Friendly Accreditation is awarded to organisations that can demonstrate real action, not just written policy. It assesses leadership commitment, training, communication and workplace culture.

By achieving the accreditation, Hanover reinforces its commitment to being a supportive employer and creating an environment where colleagues can build long and fulfilling careers.

The milestone reflects the organisation’s wider values-led approach – ensuring that care and compassion are evident not only in the services it provides, but within its own teams.

As conversations around menopause continue to grow nationally, Hanover’s recognition sends a positive message about openness, inclusion and practical support in the workplace.
