A major refurbishment milestone has been marked in the Highland town of Kingussie, where residents, employees and partners gathered to celebrate a transformational upgrade to a much-loved local housing development.
The event at Glebe Court marked the completion of a £1.2 million renovation programme that has delivered significant improvements to living standards for older people in the community.
Originally built in 1983, Glebe Court is one of the earliest rural developments by Hanover Scotland. The modernisation has ensured the site continues to provide warm and energy-efficient homes for decades to come.
Guests on the day enjoyed a standout performance from teenage singer Michael Lewis, a local rising star whose vocal talent added a celebratory tone to proceedings.
Angela Currie, chief executive of Hanover Scotland, said: “We are proud to invest in our homes, celebrate our history, and bring people together, both within developments and across neighbouring communities.
“We know that design, safety, and a strong sense of place all contribute to helping people live well in later life and Glebe Court embodies all of those values.”
The comprehensive works included the full renewal of roof coverings across the main building and five surrounding bungalows. Additional upgrades included improved insulation and the complete redesign of the communal lounge ceiling, resulting in an enhanced thermal performance and improved resident experience.
The project was delivered by Abbeymill Homes as the main contractor, supported by Brown & Wallace as quantity surveyor and principal designer. Project management was led by Mark Esslemont of Graham+Sibbald.
Angela added: “By investing in developments like this, we’re ensuring our homes remain not only structurally sound but also welcoming and sustainable for the future.”
The event also provided an opportunity for residents, employees, and guests to reflect on the history of the site, which has long held a special place in the local community.
Team members and contractors were thanked personally by residents, with many praising their professionalism and sensitivity during the months of work.
