Have your say about tenant participation with the Scottish Government and Scottish Housing Regulator

Jacqueline Norwood, interim managing director at TPAS Scotland

Tenant engagement expert TPAS Scotland is working in partnership with the Scottish Government and the Scottish Housing Regulator over the next few months to gather insights from landlords, tenants and community groups to help inform their thinking around tenant participation.

Two projects are currently underway:

  1. A thematic review commissioned by the Scottish Housing Regulator (SHR) to gather baseline information on tenant participation activities across Scotland including a focus on the Gypsy/Traveller community. The aim of this work is to improve tenant participation and recognise areas of best practice across Scotland. On behalf of the Scottish Housing Regulator, TPAS has issued a survey to every landlord registered with the SHR to gather this information and would encourage all landlords to complete it by 11th March.
  2. The Scottish Government is interested in finding out how landlords support tenants to engage across all areas of tenant participation. The purpose of this work is to capture best practice in the support currently provided for tenants and to understand how to better support tenants across the length and breadth of Scotland.

The Scottish Government also wants to know the accessibility of the information that landlords provide to tenants. They are keen to understand how people, particularly those who are hard to reach, are accessing information around their tenancy, tenant agreements etc.

The outputs from this work will provide insights around where improvements are required, whilst also recognising good practice.

Jacqueline Norwood, interim managing director at TPAS Scotland, said: “We are delighted to be working with the Scottish Government and the Scottish Housing Regulator on this extremely important piece of work. We need to do more to ensure we give tenants, across Scotland, a platform to share their thoughts and aspirations to identify and make improvements and define future recommendations.”
