A lady who has worked tirelessly to improve her local community was selected as the latest Community Champion by Partick Thistle Football Club.

Mattie McGeouch was nominated by Hawthorn Housing Co-Operative, where she has been chair since September 2017, having been involved within the Co-Op for over thirty years.

Mattie was part of a steering group of residents which established the Co-Operative in 1984. She remained part of the committee before having to resign as she cared for a family relative.

In 2008, Mattie re-joined the committee displaying the same drive and energy to improve the community as she did when the Co-Op was set up three decades ago. Mattie has chaired the finance sub-committee and is currently chair of the management committee. Mattie is also a willing volunteer at the Co-Op’s weekly food project and distributes food bags to a number of local families.

In addition to all this “formal” community activity, Mattie is always helping out the wider community particularly her extended family who live in the area. Mattie is a true ambassador for the Co-Op and she encapsulates the ethos and principles in the Hawthorn Housing Co-Operative with her unflinching drive and energy to improve our community.

Mattie was recognised at the football club’s match against Celtic on Tuesday night.
