Hillcrest’s Dundee homelessness support service to close

Hillcrest's Dundee homelessness support service to close

A Dundee project supporting people facing homelessness and social exclusion is set to close next week due to a loss of funding.

The Dundee Futures project, operated by Hillcrest Futures, currently supports around 80 people across the city. It will officially shut down on Friday, May 9, following the withdrawal of financial support from the Dundee Health and Social Care Partnership, which has been forced to make £17 million in cuts as part of broader budget reductions by the Dundee Integration Joint Board (IJB).

The closure affects two members of staff, who may face redundancy if no alternative roles can be found within the organisation. Hillcrest Futures, part of the wider Hillcrest housing group, has said it is working to identify potential redeployment opportunities.

The project provides wide-ranging support to people aged 16 and over, including help with housing and financial challenges, mental and physical wellbeing, and access to volunteering, training, and employment opportunities.

A Hillcrest Futures spokesperson said: “We can confirm that one of our services will be closing following the discontinuation of its funding. This decision affects two staff members and around 80 service users. The service has played a valuable role in helping individuals improve their financial stability and reduce social isolation through community engagement and group activities.

“We are working closely with everyone currently using the service to ensure they are connected with appropriate alternative support. We understand the importance of continuity of care and remain committed to supporting both staff and service users through this transition.”
