Housing bid for Glasgow hotel car park

Plans have been proposed to convert a part of a hotel parking area in west Glasgow into a block of flats.

Jurys Inn and Leonardo Hotel have applied to Glasgow City Council for planning permission in principle in relation to their premises at Great Western Road, beside Gartnavel Hospital.

Forty-nine flats, comprising of a mixture of one, two and three bedrooms, would be built over six floors in a building overlooking Bingham’s Pond.

If approved, basement car parking will feature in the development, Urban Realm reports.

Detailed plans would need to be submitted if the principle of residential development is agreed by city planners.

A planning statement prepared by 3DReid states: “The new development sits adjacent to the existing hotel building, and is of a mass which is consistent with it’s surrounding context. The building is orientated to address Bingham’s pond, with the majority of apartments offered with an aspect across the open space.”
