This course is for any housing professional who enters people’s homes as part of their job. It considers the risks that may be encountered when visiting homes alone, how we can be prepared and mitigate these risks. The course will consider the issues you may encounter with people that you visit, including personal and property concerns and safety.

Course Content

• Being prepared; what you should know before you go
• Issues that may arise with individuals: erratic behaviours; indications of dependency; and vulnerability more generally
• Issues with the places that you visit: common safety risks around the home; signs of hoarding; drug paraphernalia; and domestic abuse
• Lone working in the context of visiting homes; and safe procedures for this

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, delegates will:

• Be more aware of how to minimise the risks that they can encounter when working in people’s homes
• Understand how to recognise patterns or behaviours in the home that may be a cause for concern or require additional support
• Be more confident and assured when lone working
