Jane replaces current chief executive Sally Loudon who leaves COSLA in June after seven years in the job.

The appointment was confirmed after a rigorous interview process by COSLA’s Presidential Team and Political Group Leaders.

Jane has been working in Scottish local government for over 25 years but is currently working with the Scottish Government as the deputy director for community empowerment, reform and governance.

COSLA president, Councillor Shona Morrison, said: “I am absolutely delighted to welcome Jane as the new Chief Executive of COSLA. These are challenging times for Local Government, but Jane has shown impressive leadership qualities, as well as demonstrating a great understanding of both COSLA, Scottish Local Government and the wider public sector.

“Jane’s fresh approach, ambition for the organisation and vision for the future of COSLA stood out during the recruitment process and that is why we went with her. I’m really looking forward to working with her so that together we can unlock even more of COSLA and Local Government’s potential over the coming years.”

Jane said: “I am delighted to be appointed chief executive of COSLA and both honoured and excited by this fantastic opportunity. It really is one of the best jobs in the Scottish Public Sector and I cannot wait to get started.

“As well as great affection for and loyalty to COSLA and local government, I have a firm understanding of the pressures faced by local government and together with our elected members, our member councils and staff group I am passionate about delivering positive change for both our sector and our communities.

“COSLA and local government have a lot to offer our country and as chief executive I will be focusing on continuing the work and improvements over the last few years.”

Jane lives in West Lothian with her partner and two daughters and is a keen book reader and runner.

Jane started her career in Aberdeen City Council in 1998 and has worked with West Lothian Council, the Improvement Service and COSLA.
