Blackwood Homes & Care has announced the planned retirement of its chief executive, Jason MacGilp.

After two years of leading a programme of change and improvements as the senior officer at Blackwood, and after 40 years’ work in the social housing sector, Jason MacGilp is stepping down from his role as chief executive, and is retiring next Spring.

The recruitment process will begin in the coming weeks to enable a smooth transition and planned handover before Easter 2027.

Craig MacDonald, chair of the board at Blackwood, said: “Since joining Blackwood in early 2025, Jason has played a key role in improving Blackwood’s financial position and operational performance. Jason will leave Blackwood with much improved capabilities, a strong senior management team and the thanks and best wishes of Blackwood’s board.”

Jason MacGilp, CEO of Blackwood, said: “After a 40-years career working in the social housing sector, including 15 years as a chief executive in two well respected housing associations in Scotland (Cairn and Blackwood), I have decided that it is the right time for me to plan to retire.

“It has been a real privilege to lead the team and advise the board at Blackwood, and I am proud of the major improvements we have made together over the last couple of years to put the organisation’s finances and operations on a sustainable footing.

“With those firm foundations now in place, including a strong leadership team, good governance, improving performance and a clear business plan, I am confident that Blackwood has a positive future ahead. There is a great team at Blackwood and I will miss them.

“Blackwood continues to have an important and unique offer to make in housing and care services, and there has never been a stronger need for good quality homes, care and support for independent living across Scotland.”
