Kingdom Housing Association lends supports for Road Safety Week 2022

Pupils at St Ninians primary school in Cardenden, Fife, joined thousands of schoolchildren across the country to shout out for Safe Roads for All by taking part in Road Safety Week (14-20 November 2022)

Every 22 minutes, someone is killed or seriously injured on a UK road. To help raise awareness of road safety, pupils from St Ninians used free resources provided by the charity Brake and Kingdom Housing Association to learn about the people we share our roads with and how they can use roads safely to protect themselves and others. They also learned how they can make their voices heard and call for the changes they need to make their journeys safer.

Pupils spent a day with community officers from Police Scotland along with Fern Barclay, Kingdom’s health & safety advisor, and Mia Hastings, Kingdom Housing Association’s communications & media trainee. The police officers spoke to the pupils about road safety at pedestrian crossings and the role of the police in road safety among other topics.

Scott Williams, head of programme delivery at Brake, said: “It’s every child’s right to be able to walk and cycle in their community without fear of traffic and pollution. Children must be able to walk safely in the places where they live. We’re delighted Kingdom Housing Association and St Ninians PS are getting involved in Road Safety Week and shouting out for their right to make safe and healthy journeys every day.”

Dave Roy, Kingdom’s health and safety officer said: “Kingdom has supported Road Safety Week annually for a number of years and we’re proud to be involved with the 2022 campaign. At Kingdom our mission is to provide ‘More Than a Home’ and part of that is helping to build safer communities.

“We believe that road safety is of paramount importance not only to our employees, tenants, and clients but to every road user and pedestrian.”

Dave added: “We are keen to help raise awareness of the importance of responsible driving, with the ultimate goal of reducing accidents wherever possible so this year we will promote this through our website and social media.”
