Langstane Housing Association has given its support to the Make a Stand campaign developed by the Chartered Institute of Housing in partnership with Women’s Aid and the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance.

By signing up to the Make a Stand pledge, Langstane has made four focused commitments to provide support to those experiencing domestic abuse.

These include:

  • Implementing a policy to support residents who are affected by domestic abuse;

  • Making information about national and local domestic abuse support services available on its website and other easily accessible areas for residents and staff;

  • Amending its current HR policy to support members of staff who may be experiencing domestic abuse; and

  • Appointing a champion at a senior level within the organisation to own the activities which will support those experiencing domestic abuse.

Alison Hay, manager at Grampian Women’s Aid, said: “Grampian Women’s Aid are delighted that Langstane Housing Association is committed to, ‘The Make a Stand Campaign’ pledge.

“It is vital that Housing Associations recognise the implications of domestic abuse and are able to develop robust policies and processes to support both their tenants and staff who experience this insidious crime.

“Grampian Women’s Aid have and will continue to work in partnership with Langstane Housing Association to provide an in-depth and specialist understanding of domestic abuse and its impact informed by over 40 years of listening to and working with women, children and young people.”

Judith Sutherland, Langstane’s director of housing & social justice, added: “Langstane has many of the above commitments already in place. All tenants have the right to feel safe and secure in their home and we do everything that we can to ensure this happens.”
