LinkLiving helps businesses bring sparkle to lives affected by trauma

Wellbeing and social care charity LinkLiving launched its first Christmas appeal, Sponsor The Sparkle, this week and is inviting businesses to sponsor a lit Christmas star on the charity’s Fife base at West Bridge Mill in Kirkcaldy.

Funds raised will help the people LinkLiving supports who have been affected by trauma and disadvantage as well as enabling the charity to help make Christmas sparkle for people supported through West Bridge Mill.

Sheena Stone, LinkLiving’s head of fundraising & marketing, who organised this appeal, said: “LinkLiving offers specialist services to support poor mental health, homelessness prevention, independent living and inclusion, with many people finding the last 18 months to have been particularly challenging.

“Each year across East Central Scotland LinkLiving supports around 2,000 people to move forward in their lives including helping many young people through work such as the award-winning Steps To Resilience programme.

“Sponsor The Sparkle is raising funds to support work such as this, which will help transform the lives of young people who have experienced trauma such as adverse childhood experiences, disadvantage and/or social exclusion by giving them the tools to better manage their own mental health.

“Doing so helps them break negative and destructive cycles of behaviour and thinking and sets them on the path to having the best life possible.”

The lit stars, covering LinkLiving’s converted mill, will bring light and cheer for the local community after the darker times of the pandemic.

The support of the charity by local businesses will be seen by a large number of people over the festive period as West Bridge Mill is located on one of the major roads into Kirkcaldy, and situated between Morrisons and the football ground.

The stars will be live from November 25 for six weeks until the week following New Year.

People may also wish to sponsor a star in the name of a loved one or to celebrate someone close to them.

Sponsorship for ranges from £300 to £900 and the closing date for booking a star is noon on November 17. For more information visit www.linkliving.org.uk/sparkle.

LinkLiving will be lighting up one special star: the ‘Star For Everyone’ is for anyone who has lost someone dear to them. If you would like your loved one to be a part of that light, please make a donation at https://linkliving.enthuse.com/cf/sponsor-the-sparkle-star-for-everyone.
