Lochfield Park Housing Association wins prestigious property award on 30th Anniversary

The Gala day

Lochfield Park Housing Association in Easterhouse, Glasgow, celebrates its 30th Anniversary this year and is going from strength to strength.

The association has completed two new build housing developments this year, one of which, “Abbeycraig Road” has just been recognised as “Affordable Housing Development of the Year” at the prestigious Herald Property Awards for Scotland 2023.

The development of eighty-four properties on a Brownfield site adjacent to the 7 Lochs Wetland Park on the periphery of Easterhouse, has raised the bar and peoples’ aspirations for affordable social housing.

The properties designed by Grant Murray Architects, and built by McTaggart Construction, met all the associations’ wishes in terms of design, build quality, space standards, sustainability, and sense of place. This was also recognised earlier in the year by The Scottish Home Awards 2023 which listed Abbeycraig Road as a finalist in two Award Categories, however, Abbeycraig Road did not win the award.

Kenny Halliday the association’s director, said: “This was the Associations’ largest New Build development to date, and to be recognised by two highly respected Property Awards is more than we could have hoped for. When we look back over the last 30 years at the housing-led regeneration that has taken place in the Lochend Area of Easterhouse, everyone connected to Lochfield Park should be proud of their contribution and achievements.”

Steven Gallacher, chairperson, commented: “Area regeneration is a long-term thing and involves more than housing. I was really pleased by our recent 30th Anniversary Gala Day where over 700 residents enjoyed a great, fun day and you could sense the positive community spirit in the area.”

Lochfield Park is grateful for the support of Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government over the years and hopeful that this will continue until the regeneration of the east suburb of Easterhouse is complete. It is not lost on the residents who have lived in the area for the last 40 years that what was once a run-down estate with a high crime rate, is now a community where people are proud to live, and where demand for affordable social housing is at its highest for a decade, and continuing to grow.
