Loreburn Housing Association has been successful in securing a further two years of Lottery Funding for two Sustaining Communities Officers, covering the East and West of Dumfries and Galloway.
Their Sustaining Communities team has supported many of their tenants in the past two years, providing practical, emotional and housing-related assistance. The service will now be available to all residents in Dumfries and Galloway who would be considered vulnerable, disadvantaged, and/or at risk of homelessness due to rent arrears or property condition.
The service aims to ensure that individuals can access the help they need to sustain their tenancy and improve their wellbeing by providing guidance and referrals to specialist agencies.
Lorraine, sustaining communities officer, said: “It has been a very enriching experience, very varied and busy. The most rewarding part of my role has been to see tenants accept support and the difference it can make to their lives. I am delighted that this service will now roll out to everyone across the region.”
Available Services:
- Pre-tenancy workshops - support to understand tenant rights and responsibilities
- Benefit Support – income maximisation and appeals
- Hoarding Support – practical support and referrals
- Tenancy Sustainment Support – guidance, advocacy and early intervention
- Wellbeing Support – referrals to agencies and arranging community events to improve quality of life.
The Sustaining Communities Project has partnered with local authorities, charity organisations and health providers who can complete referrals on behalf of anyone that may be eligible. Residents can also self-refer by calling: 01387 321 300, or emailing: sustainingcommunities@loreburn.org.uk.
David, west team manager, said: “The Initiative has been a great success internally, we have had a lot of positive feedback and supported many tenants in difficult circumstances. We are be able to offer both in-person and remote support, ensuring accessibility for those with mobility issues and digital barriers.
“We hope to prevent crisis situations, reduce the pressure on statutory services and enable people to feel safe and supported in their homes.”
