More demolitions planned for next phase of £100m Wyndford redevelopment

Three Wyndford Road high-rises were brought down by a controlled explosion in March

The transformation of the Wyndford area in north Glasgow is moving into its next stage, with three further buildings now earmarked for demolition.

Wheatley Homes Glasgow has submitted prior notices to bring down the Maryhill Community Hub and two former janitors’ houses as part of the £100 million regeneration. The move will pave the way for 386 new affordable homes, 85% of which are intended for social rent.

The Glenfinnan Road properties are reported to be derelict, while the community hub has already been temporarily relocated. Once construction is complete, a new council-run community facility will provide a permanent base for local services.

This latest step follows the dramatic demolition of three Wyndford tower blocks in March, when hundreds gathered to watch the controlled explosions. A fourth block, however, is being carefully dismantled by specialists.

Following those demolitions, Wheatley launched a public consultation to gather feedback on the regeneration plans. Construction on the new housing is expected to begin next year, with the overall project due for completion by 2030. The first residents could be moving in as early as 2028.

A Wheatley Homes spokesperson said: “This marks the next chapter in Wyndford’s £100m transformation. With demolition of the four multi-storeys complete, we’re moving ahead with the next phase of regeneration.

“This final phase of site clearance will pave the way for nearly 400 larger, energy-efficient homes – 85% for social rent – which will be life-changing for local families.

“The wider regeneration includes a brand-new community hub, improved green spaces, walking and cycling routes, a play park, and better parking and bin areas. Construction is due to begin next year, with the first homes ready in 2028.

“The tenant-led Wyndford Futures Focus Group is working with the design team to shape the masterplan.”
