More new council homes on the way in South Lanarkshire

South Lanarkshire CouncilA total of 18 new homes are to be built at the site of the former Lanark Baths.

Approval was given for three new blocks of three-storey amenity standard social housing flats in South Vennel, Lanark, at a meeting of South Lanarkshire Council’s planning committee.

Construction of the homes will begin towards the end of 2017 and they should be completed within one year of the start date.

Chair of the housing and technical resources committee, Councillor Josh Wilson, said: “I am delighted that approval was agreed for these new homes.

“It is a much needed and very welcome addition to social housing provision in the Lanark area and is part of the council’s commitment to build new homes throughout South Lanarkshire, delivering 1000 new homes by 2021/2022.”

Executive director of housing and technical resources, Daniel Lowe, added: “This latest development in Lanark, providing 8 two bedroom and 10 one bedroom amenity flats, is part of our Home+ programme and will bring suitable, affordable and sustainable homes to the area.”
