Motherwell town centre site earmarked for social rent apartments
A planning application has been lodged for a new residential development in Motherwell.
The application by MAST Architects outlines plans for 44 apartments at 245 Brandon Street.
Working with design & build contractor McTaggart Construction, the practice aims to retain the landscaped areas and provide communal open space.
Arranged across two distinct blocks, the accommodation will be for social rent.
According to the design and access statement, the site sits within an established and highly sustainable urban context, where a full range of local amenities, retail, leisure, education and employment opportunities are accessible within walking distance.
The statement added: “Currently occupied by an unused building, the brownfield nature of the site makes it an appropriate and efficient location for new housing, aligning with local and national objectives to direct growth to urban centres and reduce reliance on greenfield release.
“Redevelopment of this vacant and underutilised site will not only contribute to housing delivery, but will also repair the urban fabric along Brandon Street, improving the streetscape and its role as a key gateway into the town centre.”
G3 Consulting Engineers, Carbon Futures and DWA Landscapes make up the design team.
