New Ayr town centre social housing nears completion
Ayrshire Housing’s board and staff take a tour around the new Green Street development
The doors are very close to being opened on Ayr’s newest social housing development.
Ayrshire Housing is adding 32 new flats to its housing stock on Green Street in the town centre.
The one and two-bedroom flats are designed to be as net zero as possible, with solar panels and energy efficient electric boilers. They also come with EV charging parking spaces with two of the ground floor flats wheelchair accessible. All the other ground floor apartments are mobility friendly to suit older tenants.
The development is spread over Green Street and the corner of North Harbour Street just to the north of the River Ayr in the harbour area of town. The site of a former builders’ merchant, around half of the new flats will enjoy riverside views across Ayr Marina.
“These are the first of 91 new planned homes outlined for construction in our 2030 Business Plan to be completed,” said Ayrshire Housing chief executive, Lesley-Anne Junner, during a visit to the site by the association’s board.
“I’m very much looking forward to welcoming our new tenants in early 2027, these will be a very welcome addition to our stock in the town.”
Lesley-Anne added: “These new homes are being constructed with very latest insulation techniques and state-of-the-art heating technology to ensure that during these times of rising energy costs we are helping to keep more money in tenants’ pockets.”
The development is being constructed by Ashleigh (Scotland) Ltd with support from Clancy Consulting and TCS Construction Consultants to a design by Denham Youd Architects. The project is supported by South Ayrshire Council and with grant funding from the Scottish Government.
