A total of 278 new council homes were delivered across the area driving regeneration, boosting the local economy and creating jobs. This brings the programme total to 1,629 homes (1 October 2025) built for tenants across our local communities. Five projects are also currently on site.  

Additional new build sites have been identified for evaluation for potential inclusion within the new supply programme, including: 

• approximately 36 units at Law Drive, Newarthill, Motherwell
• approximately 26 units across sites in Coltness, Wishaw, including 13 at Innerleithen Drive, 7 units at Walkerburn Drive and 6 units at North Kilmeny Crescent
• approximately 30 units at Motherwell Road, Bellshill.

The Housing Committee also approved the progression of ‘off the shelf’ purchases. These include up to 17 units at Paxtane Farm, Balmoral Drive, Harthill and up to 40 units at the former Clydesdale Works Site, Clydesdale Road, New Stevenson.

The council’s Open Market Purchase Scheme (OMPS) acquired 92 homes. As of 1st October, 62 homes have been purchased, substantially exceeding the figures recorded at the same point in 2024/25. The programme has now exceeded 900 homes since its inception.

A total of 363 homes have been delivered through the Affordable Housing Policy and ‘Developer Pathfinder’ off-the-shelf initiative. In 2024/25, 96 properties were purchased from a range of developers, enhancing the range of housing available at new housing developments across the authority.  

Housing convener, Councillor Michael McPake, said: “It’s been another successful year for our new housing supply programme and it’s great to see we’re delivering more homes across the area. Earlier this year, we announced plans to expand our programme to deliver 6,000 new homes by 2035. We’re committed to meeting this target and continue to roll out our programme at pace.

“In addition to significant investment, we’re also driving forward initiatives to improve and expand our existing stock, supplementing our new house building programme and providing more homes for our tenants. We’ll continue to identify suitable properties that we can bring back into use, ensuring we maximise the stock of available homes on offer to our tenants and residents.

“The new supply programme is key to delivering transformational change as set out in The Plan for North Lanarkshire by providing affordable, modern homes while realising our vision of regenerating town centres, retaining buildings of historical importance, and promoting town centre living.”
