Oak Tree brings communities together with festive events across Inverclyde
Oak Tree Housing Association has been delighted to support a series of festive community activities throughout December, bringing residents, families, contractors and local partners together to celebrate the Christmas period and support households across Inverclyde.
At the start of the month, the Association hosted its Big Christmas Toy Event, which saw residents, staff, contractors and community partners donate a wide range of new and gently used toys.
These were distributed to households within the community, with surplus donations shared with local charities and organisations to ensure they reached those who would benefit most.
Those attending the event were also welcomed with festive treats and hot chocolates, helping to create a warm and inclusive atmosphere.
The initiative aimed to spread joy and provide practical support to families during the holiday season, and the response from the community was overwhelming. Thanks to the generosity shown, many children across Inverclyde will receive a gift this Christmas.
To continue the festive celebrations, Oak Tree worked in partnership with contractor MCN Ltd. to host a Festive Film Night at The Waterfront Cinema in Greenock. Residents and their families enjoyed a private screening of the Christmas classic Elf, providing an opportunity for families to spend time together and enjoy a shared seasonal experience.
A spokesperson from MCN Ltd said: “MCN were delighted to help fund a Christmas movie night for Oak Tree tenants and their families. We hope everyone who came along had a fantastic time and left feeling full of Christmas cheer.”
Creativity and community spirit were also celebrated through Oak Tree’s annual Christmas Decorations Competition, which recognised the effort residents put into decorating their homes during the festive period. The competition was kindly supported by contractor Sidey, who donated Scotland Loves Local gift vouchers as prizes. Winners received certificates and vouchers in recognition of their contribution to spreading festive cheer across neighbourhoods.
In addition, Oak Tree Housing Association donated selection boxes and toys to Starter Packs Inverclyde, Inverclyde Women’s Aid and Friends4Ever, supporting organisations that provide vital assistance to individuals and families within the local community.
Ellie Butcher, community engagement worker at Oak Tree Housing Association, added: “It’s been fantastic to see residents, families, staff and partners come together over the past few weeks. These events are about more than Christmas celebrations – they’re about connection, inclusion and making sure people feel supported within their community, particularly at what can be a difficult time of year.”
Commenting on the programme of events, Sean Connor, chief executive of Oak Tree Housing Association, added: “Christmas can be a challenging time for many households, so it’s important that we do what we can to bring people together, spread some joy and provide practical support. We’re incredibly grateful to our residents, staff, contractors and community partners for their generosity and commitment.
“These events reflect the strength of our communities and the positive impact that collaboration can achieve.”
Oak Tree Housing Association would like to thank everyone who contributed, attended or supported the events and wishes all residents and partners a peaceful and enjoyable festive period.
