People power unlocks group discounted energy in Scotland

One Big SwitchThe people power of over 20,000 Scottish households has succeeded in unlocking group discounted electricity and gas offers in Scotland.

The electricity and gas offers have been unlocked as part of the Big Energy Switch, a national group switching campaign run by Scotland’s newest consumer network, One Big Switch.

The special offer is available to One Big Switch members in Scotland who switch to Britain’s biggest independent Energy provider; First Utility.

The offer can save households on average up to £246 off their energy bills in a year.

Other offer features include:

  • Fixed Energy Prices at a low tariff until June 30 2016
  • Super fast switching to First Utility in two and a half weeks
  • Offer is only available to the first 10,000 switchers.
  • The announcement was welcomed by Michael Stewart, campaign director of One Big Switch, who said: “This campaign was always an experiment in people power, today that experiment worked, and group discounted electricity and gas has been made possible by the united voice of Scottish households.

“It’s a big win for consumers who joined the campaign, but hopefully it will also help drive competition across the whole energy market in Scotland. The rising cost of electricity and gas in Scotland is hurting many families, hopefully this discounted offer will bring some relief.”

Ed Kamm, chief customer officer at First Utility, added: “We put our energy into helping people save money and prevent them overpaying for their energy. That’s why we’re so excited to be able to offer customers across Scotland such a great tariff with One Big Switch.

“With 70 per cent of the Big Six customers still on standard variable tariffs and overspending by hundreds of pounds each year, we are hoping that by making switching easier, more customers will choose to switch and save.”

Consumers who wish to access full details of the electricity offer can still join the Big Energy Switch Campaign by registering at

Consumers who are not yet registered can still do so at no cost and with no obligation. The offer is for both ‘electricity only’ and ‘dual fuel’ eligible households.
