Pineview’s Ben Keenan wins NextGen Leaders Award at SFHA Conference

Ben Keenan accepts his award from SFHA chief executive Sally Thomas
Ben Keenan, housing services officer at Pineview Housing Association, has been named the winner of the NextGen Leaders Award at the 2025 Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA) Annual Conference.
The award, which recognises emerging talent in Scotland’s social housing sector, was presented to Ben at the SFHA’s 50th Anniversary Conference Gala Dinner last week, where he was celebrated alongside fellow nominees for their outstanding contributions.
Ben joined Pineview in 2022 as an assistant officer, bringing with him not only a postgraduate diploma in Housing Studies and membership in the Chartered Institute of Housing, but also a clear-eyed awareness of the learning and growth still ahead. His dedication and values quickly distinguished him, leading to his promotion to officer level within a year.
“Ben is a young housing professional who is inspirational for everyone within the housing sector, regardless of age,” said Joyce Orr, director of Pineview Housing Association. “He is empathetic, kind and generous, always doing his best to assist customers and colleagues. Ben actively delivers Pineview’s values and is a hit with customers – not many tenants don’t know Ben!”
Ben has become a central figure within Pineview, contributing to service improvements, community engagement, and the association’s Investors In People Gold accreditation. He has also completed the Future Leader Programme, spoken at sector events, and is an active member of the Young Housing Professionals’ Network.
Living with a physical disability, Ben’s determination and positive leadership have only been amplified. “Ben is truly inspirational,” Joyce added. “If the sector can encourage and keep people like Ben to be our next generation of leaders, then we can all look to the future with confidence.”
Reflecting on his award, Ben said: “To be recognised for the work you do by others within the sector really reinforces that I am doing the right things. For it to come from an organisation as prestigious as the SFHA is an honour.”
Ben praised his colleagues at Pineview, saying the award is not his alone. “Anything we achieve is done so as a team. Pineview’s investment in young people ensures that our motto of putting people first is a promise and not just a statement.”
Mollie Stephen, who leads SFHA’s Routes to Housing project, said: “The award is testament to Ben’s exceptional skill, commitment, and innovation in his work, which not only demonstrates leadership, but a passion for making a difference in his community.”
Looking to the future, Ben described the award as “being handed a baton,” and pledged to continue championing community, connection, and collective working across the sector.
Ben was shortlisted for the award alongside Ryan Liddell of Hillcrest, Mia Hastings at Kingdom Housing Association, and Langstane Housing Association’s Chloe Beech.
