Plans approved to double the delivery of new North Lanarkshire Council homes

NLC new homesNorth Lanarkshire Council has approved its five-year Strategic Housing Investment plan (SHIP) which aims to deliver over 1,900 new homes over the next five years, doubling the rate completed over the previous five years.

The SHIP, for 2018-19/2022-23, was approved by councillors at a recent meeting of the enterprise and housing resources committee and has been submitted to the Scottish Government.

It also contains details of the council’s own contribution to meeting the need for additional, affordable accommodation through its new build programme, with plans already well underway to build 2,150 new homes for rent by 2026-27, with over 430 delivered to date and a further 450 on site at present.

These new homes will help meet local housing needs across North Lanarkshire, regenerate communities and support the local economy. The homes will be delivered by the council and housing associations supported by nearly £120 million of funding from the Scottish Government.

Councillor Allan Graham, convener of enterprise and housing, said: “We want all of our tenants and residents to enjoy good quality housing in a pleasant and safe environment, and our SHIP details how we’ll work with our partners to achieve this.”
