Scottish social care charity Quarriers has strengthened its board with the appointment of five new trustees following a far-reaching recruitment process.

With backgrounds in finance, advocacy, social services, PR and property, the new members of the board are:

  • Linda Bailey, CEO, Partners in Advocacy
  • Marjorie Calder, director, OceanBlue Consulting
  • Alan Frizzell, director of finance, The Edrington Group
  • Andrew Kubski, development services manager, City Property (Glasgow)
  • Murray Leys, social services consultant
  • George Peacock, head of property, The British Red Cross Society
  • Working on a voluntary basis, the new trustees will bring unrivalled knowledge to their roles, working closely with Quarriers chief executive officer, Alice Harper, and the charity’s executive directors, to drive the charity forward and ensure its strategy reflects the organisation’s charitable purpose and objectives.

Commenting on the appointments, Tom Scholes OBE, chair of Quarriers’ Board of Trustees, said: “The trustees are such an important part of everything Quarriers does and I’m very pleased with the calibre of those joining the board. They will bring invaluable experience and expertise to an already impressive team and I look forward to working closely with them all to ensure Quarriers remains at the forefront of Scotland’s third sector.”

Quarriers chief executive, Alice Harper, added: “With a large and diverse portfolio of services, Quarriers needs a Board of Trustees which reflects its needs and our new trustees will be of great benefit to the charity’s governance and strategic ambitions.

“Due to ever-changing external factors, we are constantly reviewing how we work, and with the collective expertise now at our disposal we are in a great position to continue to change and adapt to meet the needs of health and social care.

“It is fantastic we can work so closely with our Board of Trustees who have such a wide range of skills and knowledge and we are extremely grateful for their voluntary support which, ultimately, helps us optimise outcomes for the people we support.”
