An empty block of flats situated on Glasgow Road is currently being demolished to make way for a significant redevelopment which will provide eight units of council housing after approval for the procurement process to begin was granted at a recent meeting of the Environment and Housing Committee.

The project is valued at an estimated £1.6 million with the council seeking £0.6m of grant funding towards the development from the Scottish Government.

Councillor Jim Thomson, environment and housing convener, said: “This project will deliver high quality, sustainable and affordable housing for residents in St Ninians where there is significant demand for these types of flats.

“The provision of social housing remains a commitment for Stirling Council and projects such as this are a welcome boost.”

Vice convener, Cllr Danny Gibson, added: “These new homes will make a material difference to residents’ lives. I look forward to seeing this development progress and for tenants to be able to access the properties in the near future.

“Ensuring that more residents have access to affordable housing that meets their needs is a key council priority and I’m pleased to see that this project has been given approval.”
