Residents encouraged to help guide East Dunbartonshire local development plan

East Dunbartonshire Council is calling for local residents to help shape early work on its next Local Development Plan – LDP3.

An online survey has been created and drop-in sessions are being held in local communities between now and January 2024.

An LDP sets out a long-term vision for where development should and should not happen.

The first key step is the creation of an Evidence Report and that’s where East Dunbartonshire Council needs the views of residents, businesses, groups and organisations.

The report will focus on the broad concepts that will shape the plan and not, at this stage, the merits of individual sites.

Key issues include:

  • Biodiversity, natural places and trees
  • Brownfield and vacant/derelict land
  • Climate change, mitigation and adaptation
  • Good design and places
  • Flood risk and water management
  • Housing (including affordable housing)
  • Infrastructure and local neighbourhoods
  • Retail
  • Sustainable transport.

Visit the website for information and to fill in the online survey.

A series of public drop-in sessions are being held, where officers will be available to discuss any issues relating to the consultation or overall LDP3:

  • Bishopbriggs War Memorial Hall: Thursday 30 November 2023 – 5-8pm
  • Kirkintilloch Town Hall: Tuesday 5 December 2023 – 5-8pm
  • Bearsden – New Kilpatrick Parish Church, Main Hall: Wednesday 6 December 2023 – 2-5pm
  • Milton of Campsie Village Hall: Tuesday 12 December 2023 – 3-7pm
  • Torrance – Caldwell Halls: Tuesday 19 December 2023 – 5-8pm
  • Lennoxtown – Campsie Memorial Hall: Tuesday 9 January 2024 – 5-8pm
  • Twechar Healthy Living and Enterprise Centre: Thursday 11 January 2024 – 4-7pm
  • Milngavie Library: Monday 15 January 2024 – 5-8pm.

There are also plans for an online information session. To register your interest or provide feedback, email the Council’s Land Planning Policy team – development.plan@eastdunbarton.gov.uk.

The closing date for survey responses and comments is 31 January 2024.

Councillor Gordan Low, leader of East Dunbartonshire Council, said: “We are in the early stages of preparing a new Local Development Plan – known as LDP3. Creating an Evidence Report, focused on the broad concepts that will shape the plan, is the first key step.

“You can have a say via our online survey, at the information sessions or by contacting us directly by email and post. LDPs typically look 20 years ahead and are vital to help address climate change, deliver high-quality places to live, attract new jobs and investment, regenerate town centres and more.”

The current Local Development Plan (LDP2) will remain in place until the new plan (LDP3) is fully approved (expected by early 2028).
