South Ayrshire Council sets January completion date for Riverside Place development

South Ayrshire Council has announced the new housing development at Riverside Place in Ayr will be handed over by the contractor at the start of next year.
The project, which cost around £17.2 million including a £6.7m contribution from the Scottish Government, will see 75 new homes completed in January 2026.
Currently under construction are 40 one-bedroom flats, 30 two-bedroom flats, and 5 wheelchair user flats (made up of 1 one-bedroom flat and 4 two-bedroom flats).
As part of a previous consultation, a number of former residents of the riverside tower blocks expressed an interest in returning to Riverside Place on completion of the new build development. The council is in the process of writing to those residents to find out if they want to move back to the site.
The last remaining tower block is set to be demolished this September. The demolition works will take around 8 weeks to complete and will not impact on the nearby housing development.
Following the demolition, landscaping works will be carried out across the whole site.
Councillor Martin Kilbride, Buildings, Housing and Environment Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said: “The addition of another 75 affordable homes in Ayr is great news and underlines our commitment to build energy efficient and affordable properties which meet the needs of tenants. We’re now contacting former residents of the tower blocks who expressed an interest in returning. For those residents that choose to return to Riverside Place we can assist with removals and packing and can reimburse reasonable expenses they incur due to the move.
“With the telecoms mast decommissioned, we can get on with the demolition of the remaining tower block before the completion of the new development in January next year.”
