Scottish Housing Regulator publishes summary report of its work in 2017/18

Scottish Housing RegulatorThe Scottish Housing Regulator has announced it will begin a planned review of its Regulatory Framework, including a review of Charter indicators, as it outlined its plans for the upcoming year.

The Regulator said it will work closely with stakeholders on the review of the Framework, which explains how the Regulator operates its statutory powers and duties.

Pledging to put “protecting the interests of tenants and service users” at the heart of its work, a summary into the Regulator’s planned work in 2017/18 also includes:

  • national charter analysis and individual landlord reports in August
  • thematic inquiry publications on gas safety, repairs and governance
  • a planned programme of engagement with 56 registered social landlords (RSLs) and 20 local authorities.
  • Chief executive Michael Cameron said: “This year we will continue to focus on our three priorities: good services, landlords’ financial health and good governance. Alongside our core regulatory work we look forward to beginning a conversation on the future shape of regulation.

“This is a great opportunity to reflect with stakeholders and test new ideas. As part of this work we’ll take stock of changes to the landscape such as forthcoming legislation and the new Charter. This is a hugely important project for us and for landlords, tenants, lenders and everyone with an interest in our work.”

The Regulator will also welcome a new chair and board members, following the retirement of its current chair, Kay Blair, in August 2017.
