Share brought together housing professionals from across the sector this week for a landmark event with the Scottish Housing Regulator (SHR).

The sold-out event on Wednesday at the Leonardo Royal Hotel created a unique opportunity to hear directly from the Regulator and explore vital themes shaping the future of social housing in Scotland.

The programme featured an in-depth look at the work of the Scottish Housing Regulator, covering annual assurance statements, notifiable events, and serious casework. Delegates gained practical insights into how the regulator approaches these areas and what they mean for housing organisations in day-to-day practice.

Helen Shaw, director at SHR, opened the event with a keynote on Who We Are, What We Do, and How We Work, providing an overview of the Regulator’s statutory role in safeguarding tenant interests and monitoring social landlords’ performance, governance, and financial health.

Dean Reynolds, regulation manager at SHR, followed with a session on Annual Assurance Statements, offering practical guidance on how social landlords can provide assurance of compliance with regulatory standards.

Presentations on Annual Assurance Statements and Notifiable Events

Stephen Lalley, regulation manager, led a keynote on Notifiable Events, highlighting what constitutes a notifiable event, reporting requirements, and how SHR assesses and responds to these incidents.

The event concluded with Serious Casework – How We Engage with Serious Cases and Lessons Learned, presented by assistant director Margaret Sharkey. Delegates heard how SHR engages with complex cases, the lessons learned from recent interventions, and how landlords can seek support when challenges arise.

Attendees of the event engaged in open discussions, asked questions, and explored how key regulatory areas connect to everyday challenges within the sector. Networking sessions also provided further opportunities to share experiences and strengthen connections across the sector.

Share extended its thanks to all delegates for their contributions throughout the day and to the Scottish Housing Regulator team for sharing their knowledge and experience.

Looking ahead, Share said it will continue to work closely with the Scottish Housing Regulator, building on an already strong relationship, and plans to host similar events in the near future to keep the conversation moving forward.
