SHARE launches Young Housing Professionals Network on Scottish Housing Day

With Scottish Housing Day 2023 celebrating housing as a career today, SHARE has marked the day by launching a network designed to help those at the start of their housing careers.

The Young Housing Professionals Network is a new and exciting project, open to anyone with less than ten years’ experience in the sector as a place to network, collaborate, develop and grow.

It is anticipated that the network will meet at least quarterly at different locations and be supported by an online forum for members to share queries and ideas, collaborate and build relationships across the sector.

Julie-Ann Cloherty, learning and development officer at SHARE, said: “We have worked as the primary provider of Modern Apprentices in housing in Scotland for a number of years now, and supported a great many other staff at the beginnings of their careers. We just wanted to provide a supportive space to help our future housing leaders flourish. Having put out a call to current housing leaders for help and support with this project, we have been overwhelmed by the positive response, it is a very exciting time.”

The first network will be free to both SHARE members and non-members and will take place on 22nd November 2023 and will feature Brian Costello of Headstrong discussing confidence and networking.

Sustaining and protecting the future of the sector and therefore communities is reliant on the staff that work so tirelessly within organisations, and this network is part of SHARE’s commitment to ensuring that learning and development for everyone at every stage in their career. If you would like to be involved in the network, but cannot attend the first event or would like to contribute your knowledge, insight or expertise, please email Julie-Ann Cloherty, SHARE’s learning and development officer at jcloherty@share.org.uk.

To coincide with the launch of this network, SHARE has also collated and published “Housing Stories”, a collection of interviews with housing professionals across the country, in various roles, discussing how they started their careers in housing and the lessons they have learned.
