Sisters go the extra mile to fundraise for Bield
Two sisters have made strides towards securing an even brighter future for Bield Flexicare users thanks to their fundraising efforts.
Clare Mcintyre and her sister Jane Grattan recently took part in the Edinburgh Half Marathon raising £520 for a charity which is very close to their heart, Bield’s Fife Flexicare service in Dunfermline.
As keen runners they finished the scenic run, which passes by some of Edinburgh’s must-see sights including Arthur’s Seat and Holyrood Park, in just over two hours.
Clare said: “It was tough but great fun, running alongside my sister for such a great cause in such a stunning location is something I definitely won’t forget.
“Jane was a great motivator and we helped each other the whole run, as did the knowledge that we had so much support behind us with so many people donating.
“The flexicare service was brilliant in helping our grandad, he visited the day centre regularly, going for days out with the carers and getting a chance to go on some fantastic outings. It provided some fantastic support for our grandad and our whole family.
“It’s a nice feeling knowing we’ve helped to ensure that as many people as possible are receiving the great care and help that our grandad had.”
The weather stayed dry and the sun even made an appearance as the duo crossed the finish line and provided the perfect backdrop for a couple of well-deserved celebratory drinks.
Nikki Reid, manager of Bield’s Fife Flexicare, said: “We are extremely grateful for the donation from Clare and Jane and admire the hard work they put into training for what must have been a gruelling run.
“The aim of Flexicare is to support people living with dementia by helping them to stay in their own homes and community with carers available for support and to ensure that the service users are still able to continue doing what they love as far as possible.
“The work that we do wouldn’t be possible without the support of the local community and from all of us here at Bield, we would like to say a huge thank you to Clare and Jane.”
Flexicare is just one of the ways Bield ensures that its ‘Free to Be’ ethos, enabling people to make their own choices and retain independence, is available to as many people as possible.
