Strategic partner sought for Blochairn Housing Association

Blochairn Housing Association (BHA) has stepped up its transfer plans by inviting expressions of interest for a strategic partner.
Operating in and around Blochairn Place in Royston, Glasgow, Blochairn is currently engaging with the Scottish Housing Regulator about governance, financial management, planned organisational changes and tenant and resident safety.
In March 2023, Blochairn decided that transferring to another Registered Social Landlord (RSL) was necessary due to financial instability. It requested a transfer of assets in December 2024 under the Housing (Scotland) Act 2010.
The RSL said that while it has been working hard to resolve these issues and to determine its assets and liabilities, further governance, health and safety, and asset management issues have been identified over the last six months.
As a result, BHA is accelerating its transfer plans and seeking a strategic partner.
This would be a formal partnership in the shape of a transfer of engagements to an RSL or via an innovative multi-partner approach.
A spokesperson for Blochairn Housing Association said: “Blochairn Housing Association (BHA) which owns and manages 294 properties in the North East of Glasgow is seeking a strategic partner. This partner would have the capacity and resources for the transfer, which would be an attractive asset in the longer term.
“BHA is seeking a strategic partner as it is not affordable nor in the interests of tenants to remain as a stand-alone organisation in the short to medium term. This situation has become clear further to a thorough investigation over the last six months. This has identified that there are issues relating to BHA’s properties and lack of long-term investment.
“BHA has been under the scrutiny of the Scottish Housing Regulator (SHR) as a result of concerns relating to finance, governance and tenant health and safety issues since 2022. Over the last six months, in addition to the thorough assessment of issues, action has been taken on key issues. Several options were considered for BHA to remain independent. However, given these long-term issues, it is now clear that the investment required is not affordable for BHA alone, nor in the best interests of tenants, so BHA is now seeking a strategic partner.”
