Hindscarth Estates has submitted plans to transform Dundee’s Telephone House, which is to be vacated by BT next year, into a student accommodation complex featuring a cinema and gym.

The proposed development on the corner of West Bell Street and Ward Road will provide 417 student rooms across six floors, The Courier reports.

A supporting statement submitted to Dundee City Council says the block is “no longer a suitable venue for a modern-day office”.

It notes the site is “situated in an area of high student density, near to both Abertay and Dundee Universities”.

“The site offers an opportunity to provide professionally managed student housing in the right location which will also benefit the ongoing regeneration process within that area of the city,” it adds.
