Supporting the next generation of housing professionals into senior roles

The Share Management Development programme, endorsed by The Institute of Leadership, was specifically created for housing professionals in Scotland.

Designed by Share, and housing professionals with decades of experience in senior roles, its sole aim is to develop the skills and support the next generation of housing professionals into more senior positions.

With an aging workforce and many of our senior officers preparing for retirement one of the main focuses of the programme is succession planning for housing associations, an essential strategic process that prepares organisations to manage these anticipated or inevitable changes by developing the ideal leaders of the future. As such, the programme covers a wide variety of areas that housing professionals need to have developed their skills in, such as setting business plans, operational challenges, and working with management committees and the housing regulator as a housing leader.

Engaging with colleagues across the sector is also a major part of the programme and we firmly believe that building networks is a crucial aspect of career development. Feedback from previous participants has highlighted how useful it has been to connect with individuals across the sector and share ideas which will continue to develop well after the programme ends.

By investing in the leaders of the future, you will positively impact the performance of your organisation and ensure that you retain talent as employees can see that you are invested in their development and will be more likely to stay and contribute to the growth and success of the organisation. It’s not enough just to identify your future leaders. Leadership programmes are an essential part of the process to ensure they are ready to take on those future roles.

Paul Murphy, senior corporate services officer at Forgewood and Garrion’s People Housing Co-operatives, shared his experience of the qualification: “I recently completed Share’s Management Development Programme for the Housing Sector. It’s one of the best things I have done. I would highly recommend it to any housing professional. Brilliant tutors and a new network of talented colleagues from the course.”

The Share Management Development programme also has the added benefit of being endorsed by the Institute of Leadership and upon completion of the full programme learners are awarded Associate status and will be able to use postnominals AMInstLM.

Embracing innovation and creating a leadership pipeline where you are encouraging your staff to develop themselves is crucial for retaining talent and the continued success of your organisation and the sector as a whole!

The next cohort of Share’s Management Development programme starts on 24th April. For more information including dates, costs, and content click here.
