Systemic Grenfell failures to be highlighted in Netflix documentary

Netflix is to release a powerful new documentary set to lay bare the systemic failures and regulatory neglect that led to the loss of 72 lives following the Grenfell Tower tragedy in 2017.

For those working in housing, construction, and building safety, this documentary will serve as a stark reminder of the sector’s responsibilities and the catastrophic consequences of regulatory failure, cost-cutting, and a culture that put profit before people.

Commissioned by Netflix and produced by Rogan Productions (known for The Search For Nicola Bulley), the film is directed by Olaide Sadiq and features testimony from survivors, bereaved families, firefighters, and industry professionals.

According to the synopsis, Grenfell: Uncovered “documents a series of events that took place in the years before the fire, highlighting each warning and failing — revealing it to be the inevitable result of government neglect and cynical industry practices”.

The documentary includes new evidence and expert interviews from within the construction sector and government, shedding light on how fire safety warnings were missed, building regulations went unenforced, and critical safety tests were manipulated — all contributing to one of the worst housing-related tragedies in recent UK history.

For housing professionals, the documentary is likely to underscore ongoing issues across procurement, compliance, and the retrofitting of high-rise buildings. It will also draw attention to the lack of accountability; despite the passage of time, not a single individual has yet been prosecuted in connection with the disaster.

Soleta Rogan, managing director of Rogan Productions, said: “We are incredibly grateful to those affected by the tragedy for sharing their stories. The team has worked tirelessly to uncover the depth of systemic failures that put residents at risk.”

Director Olaide Sadiq added: “We wanted to reflect not just the institutional failures, but also that Grenfell was a home — a place where people should have been safe. This film has been shaped by the voices of survivors and those who have been fighting for change.”

Grenfell: Uncovered is set to premiere on Netflix on 20 June.
