Scotland Excel framework contractor Union Technical recently installed thermal insulation to several multi-storey tower blocks that will improve the thermal protection and reduce bills for residents.

Kirsty Brown, head of business development explains: “This project comprised of the installation of thermal insulation to brickwork cavities in 15 multi-storey high-rise tower blocks. The scope of works included abseiling down the elevations of the tower blocks, drilling holes in which to insert the pumping hoses and blowing insulation into the cavities. At the time of writing this we are the only company in the UK able to offer this fully funded service to social housing providers.

“High-rise blocks are notoriously difficult to retrofit and improve the thermal insulation without the vast cost of scaffolding being erected. We offer a quick fix and immediate improvements to thermal comfort for residents, as well as cutting fuel bills and energy demand, all leading to less carbon emissions and climate damage.

“Assuming that properties are being operated to a comfortable heating level, annual carbon reduction across the 15 confirmed blocks is 1,422.5t/year.”

Kelly added: “All contractors on the Energy Efficiency Contractors framework understand the importance of the decarbonisation of the energy industry and Union Technical’s project is just one of the many examples of innovation taking place.”

This feature is part of Scotland Excel’s ‘Supporting the journey to Net Zero’ campaign that aims to support the Scottish Government’s ambitious target for Scotland to become Net Zero by 2045.
