Housing takes centre stage as Scottish Construction Summit unveils full programme

A dedicated Scottish Housing Summit Stage will bring retrofit, heat networks, planning and the future of More Homes Scotland to the SEC Glasgow on 22 October.

Housing will be a major theme of this year’s Scottish Construction Summit, headline sponsored by SPI Piling, with a dedicated stage running throughout the day.

The free-to-attend event runs across three stages: the Main Stage, the Scottish Construction Now Stage and the Scottish Housing Summit Stage. The housing programme features a mix of panel discussions and presentations from developers, housing associations, architects, planners, energy specialists and policy bodies.

The housing stage’s first session is a panel on Sustainable Retrofitting, chaired by Loraine Sweeney, Scotland sector manager at Supply Chain Scotland. It follows successful residential retrofit projects from client to contractor, with a Q&A at the end.

Contributors come from across the project chain:

  • Bryony Willett, director at Home Group Scotland
  • Doug Forbes, director at Whole Life Consultants
  • Carl Baker and Maisie Tudge of Collective Architecture
  • Scott Kidd of M.C.E Scotland Ltd
  • Kerry Mackie, business growth director at Procast

Later in the day, the More Homes Scotland panel will ask what the housing sector needs from the proposed body to truly accelerate the delivery of new homes. It is chaired by Dr Jocelyne Fleming, Scotland lead and policy manager at the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), who will open with a short presentation providing the recent context of the agency.

She will be joined by:

  • Liz Hamilton, senior land and planning manager at AS Homes (Scotland) and Briar Homes
  • Gillian Lavety, development director for Scotland at Sanctuary Scotland
  • David Raine, head of policy development at Homes for Scotland
  • James Mackay, regional managing director at Persimmon Homes

A packed programme of presentations

Between the two panels, the stage runs a schedule of presentations from across the industry:

  • Donna Milton, managing director, Arneil Johnston
  • Murray Henderson, director, HAUS Collective
  • Matt Bridgestock, managing director, John Gilbert Architects
  • Gordon Bruce, commercial director, Insite Group
  • Gordon Thomson, director and head of Scotland, Turley
  • Anne Johnstone, ESG director, Vital Energi
  • Kathryn McKee, head of external engagement, SSEN Transmission
  • Ken Brady, director, Heat Network Scotland
  • Stuart Gadsden, commercial director, Kensa
  • Mark Collinson, head of technical, NASC

A session from Morton Fraser MacRoberts is also scheduled for the afternoon, with speakers still to be confirmed.

The line-up covers the issues facing Scottish housebuilders and housing providers, from planning and ESG to heat networks and grid connections.

The wider summit

The housing stage runs alongside a Main Stage programme covering commercial, digital, sustainability and recruitment and retention themes. It is headlined by a keynote from Steven Boyd MBE and an afternoon of commercial insight from industry figures including Mark Farmer of Cast Consultancy.

The Scottish Construction Now Stage hosts sessions on construction law, bidding, health and safety, and circular construction.
