Taylor Wimpey West Scotland has confirmed that construction and the handover of 67 affordable homes at Benthall Farm in East Kilbride is nearing completion, with the final few homes almost ready for handover to South Lanarkshire Council.

The range of 67 homes for social rent comprise one- and two-bedroom cottage flats, two- and three-bedroom terraced, two- and three-bedroom semi-detached as well as four-bedroom detached homes, which form part of the wider masterplan vision and framework for the new community that is now emerging off Auldhouse Road.

The ‘turn-key’ homes are ready to move into the day that keys are exchanged.

Alison Henderson, special projects manager for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, said: “Reaching the completion of 67 affordable homes for South Lanarkshire Council at Benthall Farm marks another milestone on the journey towards creating a diverse community that complements the existing neighbourhoods of East Kilbride.

“As part of our Section 75 agreement, we have already made contributions of over £2 million towards education, roads and the community and we remain committed to working closely with South Lanarkshire Council to ensure the local community of East Kilbride continues to reap the benefits of our long-term investment in the area.”

She added: “Furthermore, we are pleased to be in discussion with South Lanarkshire Council to provide a range of 50 affordable homes at our development which forms part of the masterplan vision for the Brackenhill Farm area of Hamilton.

“The mix of homes that we will build in Hamilton mirrors the range of tenure built at Benthall Farm, and we are delighted to confirm that planning consent was recently granted for these properties. We look forward to confirming our next steps shortly.”

On a visit to the development last week, Cllr Joe Fagan, leader of South Lanarkshire Council, said: “I am delighted to see the completion of council housing for rent being delivered by Taylor Wimpey on this site.

“We have already successfully delivered a significant number of new housing developments across South Lanarkshire through our new council housing programme which is supported with grant funding from the Scottish Government.

“Benthall Farm is a mixed community development which will enable people of different ages and lifestyles to share the benefits of well-designed housing and the surrounding environment, both of which meet their needs now and will continue to do so into the future.”

Cllr Davie McLachlan, the council’s chair of housing and technical resources, added: “This development is an excellent example of what we are trying to achieve with our new council housing, in that it not only provides much-needed additional properties to our housing stock but also does so with the requirements in mind of the modern householder.

“They are built to high standards and the construction of all properties at this development features a tenure-neutral approach where the private housing is indistinguishable from social housing.

“The mix of different types of homes at Benthall Farm demonstrates the council’s continuing commitment to meeting key priorities in our Local Housing Strategy, which include increasing the supply of affordable housing to meet a wide range of needs, especially in pressured areas such as East Kilbride.”
