Welfare Wise win for Castle Rock Edinvar’s financial inclusion team
The pioneering financial inclusion service has supported over 10,000 tenants in the last 14 years, reacting to customer demand and a complex welfare system. In 2014-15 for every £1 spent £15 was gained by customers and in 2015 alone the service helped over 1100 tenants receive £2.2 million in backdated and ongoing benefits, charitable donations, grants and debt repayment reductions, an average of £2000 per tenant.
Welfare Wise has evolved from an exploratory project to an integral part of the housing management service with customers of neighbouring housing associations and local authorities benefiting from the provision.
This unique service can be delivered in the customer’s home or in an alternative setting of their choice, allowing full accessibility and a comfortable environment for the customer. It is free and provides support to new tenants and those who need welfare benefits assistance, home energy advice, money management and debt advice.
Caroline Keir, financial inclusion manager at Castle Rock Edinvar, said: “It is fantastic that our Financial Inclusion team has been recognised, as the support they provide is highly valued by our customers, available when they need it most. It is a key service within Castle Rock Edinvar which not only helps relieve the anxiety of money worries for our customers but also reduces the pressure on the public purse.”
