West Granton attends Downing Street reception for co-operatives and mutuals

Larke Adger

West Granton Housing Co-operative (WGHC) CEO Larke Adger attended a reception at 10 Downing Street on 9th June to mark the Year of the United Nations’ International Year of Co-operatives.

The event for co-operatives and mutuals was hosted by the Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Jonathan Reynolds, alongside the Minister for Services, Small Businesses and Exports, Gareth Thomas.

As one of only seven housing co-operative social landlords left in Scotland, Larke was proud to share her concerns with Minister Gareth Thomas.

Larke shared: “It is encouraging that the UK Government now recognises the importance of the co-operative and mutuals sector in its manifesto pledge to double the size of the mutual co-operative sector.”

WGHC celebrates its 35th Anniversary this year and this was a fitting event to attend, in recognition of what co-ops can achieve and how they can help change lives and build thriving, empowered communities.
