Wheatley and Taylor Wimpey strike deal to deliver 29 affordable homes in Bathgate

Taylor Wimpey East Scotland has reached an agreement with Wheatley Group to build 29 new affordable homes for social rent, which will form part of its Sibbalds Wynd development, off Sibbalds Brae in Bathgate.

The conclusion of this agreement paves the way for a mix of two-bedroom mid-terraced, as well as three-bedroom end terrace and semi-detached homes to be built, and work on the first foundations is expected to start in March next year.

Taylor Wimpey has designed and created an affordable housing range which has allowed its team to deliver accurate, appropriate, and responsive proposals to meet the design brief for affordable homes. In real terms, this will allow Wheatley to take ownership of ‘turn-key’ homes which are ready to move into the day that keys are exchanged.

The homes will be managed by Wheatley Homes East, part of Wheatley Group.

Phil Cooper, land and planning director for Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, said: “Securing this deal to provide 29 affordable homes for social rent in Bathgate marks a key milestone on the journey towards creating a diverse community within our wider development at Sibbalds Wynd in Bathgate.

“We have a proven track record in working with Registered Social Landlords across our operating area, and following our successful collaboration on a range of affordable homes for Wheatley Group in Roslin, this latest agreement sees us build on that relationship. We look forward to confirming our next steps shortly.”

Taylor Wimpey East Scotland completed work in September this year on 62 one, two and three-bedroom homes for social rent at the Wheatley Group development at Sinclair Gardens in Roslin.

Alastair Murray, chair of Wheatley Homes East, said: “We’re all about creating ‘Better Homes, Better Lives’ for people in our communities.

“We’re proud to be working with our partners, including Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, West Lothian Council and Scottish Government to build homes and neighbourhoods where people will be proud to call home.

“I’m looking forward to seeing these modern, spacious, energy-efficient homes take shape. They will be a great addition to Bathgate.”
