A project aimed at making communities across Scotland cleaner and greener is marking its 10th anniversary.

Wheatley and the environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful are celebrating 10 years working together to improve neighbourhoods.

The partnership includes Wheatley tenants being trained as assessors and taking part in neighbourhood walkabouts to spot issues.

Last year, all four of Wheatley’s social landlords – Wheatley Homes Glasgow, Wheatley Homes East, Wheatley Homes South, and Wheatley Homes Loretto – earned Keep Scotland Beautiful’s top five-star rating.

Barry Fisher, chief executive at Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: “It’s been wonderful to partner with Wheatley for the past decade and help their staff and customers put the environment at the heart of what they do.

“Communities have a real responsibility to keep Scotland beautiful, and the work that’s been done over these past 10 years benefits not only the people who live in Wheatley homes but the wider community too.

“Everyone should be proud of where they live, and we hope this partnership continues to make Wheatley customers feel that way.”

Tenants and Keep Scotland Beautiful team up with Wheatley’s Neighbourhood Environmental Teams (NETs) to help keep communities clean and tidy.

Last year, the NETs collected over 12,000 tonnes of bulk waste from communities. Often, white goods, furniture, and other items were cleaned, upcycled, and given to tenants for free to help them furnish their homes.

Steven Henderson, chief executive of Wheatley, said: “Our partnership with Keep Scotland Beautiful has always been about people as much as places.

“For 10 years, it has helped tenants take an active role in shaping their communities, giving them opportunities to influence improvements and make a real difference where they live.

“Together, we have helped create communities people can be proud of, and we look forward to building on that success in the years ahead.”
