Whiteinch & Scotstoun’s Welfare Rights Service secures over £1.4m in financial gains for tenants

Whiteinch & Scotstoun Housing Association has reflected on another exceptional year for its Welfare Rights Service, which has continued to deliver significant financial support for tenants across the community.

During the 2025/26 financial year, the service secured a total financial gain of £1,414,580.34 for tenants, equating to an average of £3,962 per household supported. This achievement is particularly notable as the service has been delivered by a single welfare rights officer, Lisa McNaughtan, following a temporary change in team structure.

Despite operating with reduced capacity, the Welfare Rights Service has continued to achieve strong outcomes for tenants through access to welfare benefits, effective partnership working and a focused approach to income maximisation. Key successes this year include the continued impact of the association’s partnership with the Halliday Foundation, alongside vital financial assistance provided through the Tenant Grant Fund to help our tenants sustain their tenancies.

This has all been possible, due to introducing a Tenancy Sustainment Pathway where we can identify support required for tenants from the point of offer to ensure the correct support is put in place early.

Assistance from the service has enabled tenants to access additional support during ongoing cost-of-living pressures, helping to reduce financial hardship and improve household stability.

The Welfare Rights Service remains a vital part of Whiteinch & Scotstoun Housing Association’s wider support offer, guiding tenants to navigate the benefits system, maximise income, and access financial help when needed.

The association said it remains committed to investing in Welfare Rights support and partnership initiatives to ensure tenants continue to receive timely, effective assistance and feel supported within their homes and communities.
