Work begins on new homes at Parkhead bowling green

Work has started to deliver a new development on the site of a former bowling green for Parkhead Housing Association.
Delivered by SIM Building Group, the £5 million will see the former front bowling green at Belvidere Bowling Club developed into 24 flats, a mix of 1 & 2 bedrooms and two wheelchair flats. The development will be adjacent to the current Parkhead Housing Association properties located at London Road and Silverdale Street.
Parkhead HA CEO Aileen McGuire said: “We are delighted to be cutting ground at our latest development, which will see much-needed, affordable homes built for the Parkhead community. It’s vitally important that we continue to push our ambitious development plans to meet the demands of our customers.”
The work commenced on 5th May 2025, and the estimated project duration is 12-14 months.
The block will be functionally split into two main stairwells, each with three flats per floor. There will be a mix of 1-bed two-person flats and 2-bedroom four-person flats. Two of the flats on the ground floor will be wheelchair accessible.
Chair of Parkhead Housing Association, Susan McKeown, added: “It is fantastic to see us back developing again at the Belvidere site. The PHA board is excited by the prospect of what is the beginning of a number of new developments in the pipeline over the next five years. Delivering new homes for Parkhead is a key aspect of our strategic plan, but is also vital in tackling the housing crisis across our communities.”
