Who’s it for and what’s it about?

Sitting as a sub-group of the busy HR and Corporate Services Network, this group will be dedicated to workplace wellbeing, will meet twice a year and be supported by an email group for sharing ideas, suggestions and good practices with like-minded wellbeing pioneers.

Who’s it for and what’ it about?

This course is designed for those who work within a factoring role in their housing association and deal with arrears collection. Throughout this course we will examine owner-occupier debts and what we can do as factors to reduce these and address consistent non-payers, as well as the do’s and don’ts of debt collection in relation to legislation and the deeds of condition.

 

19.11.25 Electrical safety awareness

Who’s it for and what’s it about?

This course is suitable for electrical and non-electrical personnel and considers basic electrical safety leading on to what the minimum requirements are for contractors coming on site and how to interpret their test reports.

This course comprises 2 sessions that have been designed for leaders and managers to build the skills and techniques that can help them to work well and support staff in challenging and sometimes stressful situations. It makes the links between Resilience and Emotional Intelligence and gives leaders space to reflect on their own strengths, influence and impact.

There are greater expectations of Chairs these days. They have to lead the Committee/Board and work closely with senior staff and in particular the Director or Chief Executive. This session is for new and experienced Chairs, vice Chairs and those who are being prepared for the position of Chair.

This course, for senior officers and finance staff, is designed to help you understand the CIPFA code to ensure compliance. The underlying principle that should shape any Treasury Management Policy is that the governing body is risk-averse. The policies and practices outlined within the policy should make clear that the effective management and control of risk are the prime objective of the strategy.

 

04.12.25 Housing associations in a nutshell – finance and development

Who’s it for and what’s it about?

The final part of our three-session induction programme will introduce two housing association functions which require sharp scrutiny and good risk management. The finance function of a housing association will cover all aspects of financial management, from management accounts to future financial planning and projections and covenant and lending obligations.

This qualification explores the underpinning framework for successful provision of housing maintenance services.  It will explore topics from a strategic viewpoint and is suitable for those aspiring to, or already in management positions within a housing organisation.  

 

14.01.25 Dealing with tenant and staff disputes using mediation techniques

Disputes and complaints can happen in every organisation. These can be between tenants in neighbourhood disputes; between a tenant and the association or even between staff. Mediation can be a very effective tool in helping housing staff to bring these issues to a satisfactory conclusion, preventing escalation and helping staff to have more productive interactions.

 

20.01.25 Business planning for Committee/Board

This is for Committee/Board/Governing Body Members that are involved in the business planning process for their organisation. The session gives an overview of Business Planning including the Scottish Housing Regulators recent Recommended Practice.

Who’s it for and what’s it about?

This course is for any minute taker who has been doing the task for some time and is comfortable with the basics of producing a minute. It will consider the finer detail of producing good minutes such as: recording sensitive topics and discussions; making sure minutes are fit for online publications; and regulatory expectations.

 

22.01.25 Lifestyle Conversations with tenants

Who’s it for and what’s it about?

This one day course looks at why it is no longer acceptable to just tell tenants the problems they are experiencing are about lifestyle choices. It will look at how we can educate tenants around causes of condensation and how they can help to alleviate the problem.

 

27.01.25 Questions you should be asking – health and safety 

Who’s it for and what’s it about?

This course will consider the role that the Committee/Board have in the oversight of the health and safety of their tenants, staff and other service users.
