Warm homes ‘could see a third of excess winter deaths avoided’

Campaigners called on the Scottish Government to take further action to improve the energy efficiency of Scotland’s homes in the wake of new statistics showing that an excess of 2,720 people died in winter 2016/17 compared with warmer months.

With six months to go until Scotland’s newest bridge, the Queensferry Crossing, is set to be opened, campaigners are calling for the country’s next big infrastructure project to be one that makes a difference to people’s homes in every part of Scotland, whilst also helping to realise a more socially-just and low-carbon future.

Call for action to rid Scotland of its 1.5 million cold homes

Political parties have been urged to commit to ridding Scotland of the “scourge” of cold homes by 2025 after new data revealed that there are up to 1.5 million cold homes in the country.
