10th Scottish Empty Homes Conference to go digital in Feb 2021

The Scottish Empty Homes Partnership has announced that the 10th Scottish Empty Homes Conference will be held on an online digital platform from 1 – 4 February 2021.

With the theme Providing Homes, Helping Recovery, this year’s conference will reflect on the work of the past decade and look at current challenges in Scotland.

Shaheena Din, national project manager for Scottish Empty Homes Partnership, said: “With over 1400 homes brought back into use over the past year - the highest number in the history of the Scottish Empty Homes Partnership – there will be plenty of stories worth sharing and successes to celebrate.”

The conference will feature sessions for all those involved in empty homes work – from landlords to local authority employees, contractors and community leaders – as well as interested members of the public.

Ms Din added: “We are excited about welcoming new audiences to our conference this year. Being in a digital format, we hope to attract representation from participants based in regional areas of Scotland who may have found it difficult to attend the conference in the past.”

Best practices and insights touching on all aspects of empty homes work will be shared, from how local authorities can use innovative tactics to bring back empty homes to the role of empty homes in addressing Scotland’s housing crisis.

Kevin Stewart, Scotland’s minister for local government, housing and planning, will be presenting and answering questions from participants.

The conference will be held over four consecutive mornings and flexible ticket options will be offered. The new digital platform will allow for a dynamic conference including interactive workshops and plenty of opportunities for networking.

In addition, the 10th Scottish Empty Homes Awards ceremony will take place during the conference to showcase and celebrate the work of organisations and individuals over the past year.
