Former National Housing Federation chief executive David Orr has been appointed as the new chair of Clarion’s housing association arm.

Clarion Housing is the UK’s largest social landlord, with 125,000 homes and 350,000 residents across the country.

David Orr will take over the role from David Avery, who has recently been appointed to chair the Clarion Housing Group board.

Orr joined the group board at Clarion in November after 13 years at the National Housing Federation.

He has had a thirty-year career in housing, which includes time as the chief executive of Newlon Homes and working for Centrepoint, the homelessness charity. In his time as the CEO of the NHF, David campaigned to advance the interests of housing associations at all levels of government and worked with four different prime ministers.

David Orr said: “It is a privilege to be asked to serve as Chair of the Clarion Housing Board. It is a critical time for the housing sector and I am looking forward to playing my part in the continued development of our housing association.

“The mission of Clarion Housing is to invest in and maintain good quality homes, build strong communities and provide an excellent and tailored service to all of our residents. I want Clarion Housing to lead the way in responding to residents needs and aspirations, by providing a service that meets the expectations of modern customers.”

David Avery added: “I am delighted that David has been appointed as my successor as Chair of Clarion Housing. He has been a champion of housing associations for decades and has brought great insight and expertise to the Group Board over the last ten months.

“I have every confidence that David will oversee the continued development of Clarion Housing and that our residents and staff will all benefit from his experience and knowledge of the sector.”
