Save the date for Scottish Housing Day

People and communities across Scotland are being asked to save the date for this year’s Scottish Housing Day, which will take place on Wednesday September 19th.

This will be the third annual Scottish Housing Day and is led by the Chartered Institute of Housing Scotland (CIH Scotland) in partnership with Shelter Scotland, the Tenant Participatory Advisory Service Scotland (TPAS Scotland), the Association of Local Authority Chief Housing Officers (ALACHO), the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA), Homes for Scotland, the Scottish Association of Landlords (SAL), Stirling Tenants Association, the Regional Network of Registered Tenants Organisations and the Scottish Government.

The purpose of the day is to raise public awareness of the latest developments in housing and to give people the resources that they need to make informed decisions about their housing options.

2018 is the Year of Young People, so this year’s Housing Day will have a particular focus on supporting young people and looking at how we can put young people’s housing options at the heart of Scotland’s economic, environmental and social policy.

Housing organisations across Scotland are being invited to host a variety of events and activities to support Scottish Housing Day, and the day will also be marked with a special parliamentary reception at Holyrood. Anyone taking part is encouraged to promote their activities via social media using the hash tag #scottishhousingday.

Commenting on the announcement of the date for this year’s Scottish Housing Day, CIH Scotland director, Annie Mauger, said: “We are very pleased to announce that Scottish Housing Day will be returning for a third year this September.

“In this Year of Young People, we want to raise awareness of the challenges that many young people face when it comes to accessing affordable housing, but also to highlight the many opportunities that can be achieved for all by putting housing at the heart of our county’s economic, environmental, and social policy.

“We hope that housing organisations across the country will come together to mark Scottish Housing Day, and we’re looking forward to seeing the many activities and events which will celebrate the fantastic work taking place across the whole housing sector.”
